The first half of the eight-day workshop was held in Ho Chi Minh City (at the University of Architecture, Ho Chi Minh City), and the second half, in Bangkok (at the Meiji University ASEAN Center). The site in district 8 with lots of waterways has the largest numbers of houses on and along canals. The district insists on layers of history dated back to pre-French colonial period with temples, factories and mixed-use patterns of land- use for workers and low-income migrants.
The participating students conducted fieldworks on the project site in HCMC and worked on their proposal in the six groups on the three themes: “Waterfront Development,” “Regeneration of Post-Industrial Land,” and “Housing.” After the interim review, the workshop moved to Bangkok and participants continued to develop their proposals for the final presentation.
